mch, can you share your opinion on louis van ga al enriching your language? His translations from Dutch have been getting a lot of attention here.

Well the thing is, there are so many English clubs currently being managed by non-English speakers that LvGs mangling of English hasnt made that much of an impression. With the exception of Wenger and Houiller, whose English is excellent, LvGs (rather idiosyncratic) Dutch English is not much worse than Mourinhos strange dialect and considerably more comprehensible than Capellos monosyllabic gruntings, for instance.
That said, because Im a football nerd I do sometimes watch LvGs press conferences and they can be really strange. Now the Manchester press pack are still haunted by the way Ferguson used to treat them hed lie to them as a matter of course and even ban journalists who had the temerity to ask difficult questions (try doing that in Spain). Now add the unmitigated disaster of last year with Moyes, and this means none of them have been too hostile yet.
So, back to the LvG press conference I saw bland, deferential questions from the still-chastened journos, non-answers from LvG. He then started pontificating on the importance of the juice system in Man Utds football. What can he mean? Maybe the fitness staff hes brought from Holland have come up with a miracle system for giving players more energy? (juice being old-fashioned American slang for fuel). He kept on about juice for a couple of minutes, to general bemusement, before pointing to Giggs and saying that he was a product of the juice system.
Then the penny dropped - ahhh, the youth system. Rather interestingly though, nobody dared to point out his error (unlike what would happen in Barcelona or Munich). Louis probably thought the problem was the journalists lack of intelligence rather than his rather special English.
So in short, yes Louis English isnt great, but were so used to foreign players and managers that it doesnt raise too many eyebrows, add this to the North Korea-style atmosphere that Ferguson cultivated, and the fact that Moyes was such a loser has meant hes had a pretty easy ride, despite the fact that the football has been pretty unconvincing so far.
